Sanctified: Spirituality in Contemporary Art at the Vincent Price Art Museum, East Los Angeles College, Los Angeles, California

Guest Curator: Mary Anna Pomonis
February 9 to April 26, 2013
Small Gallery

The exhibition, Sanctified: Spirituality in Contemporary Art, explores transcendence, shamanism and divinity as rubrics of meaning. Conceptually challenging the objective space of the art gallery or white cube, objects and artists create a context for spiritual passage and sanctification. Using the space as a healing ground, this group show proposes two different approaches to creating secular images of the sacred: The first group is composed of artists who make work that is derived from ritualistic action in the studio; the second is a depictive account of aura both serious and cynical.
