Biennale de Lyon 2011: A Terrible Beauty is Born
The 11th Biennale de Lyon bears the title A Terrible Beauty is Born. It presents 70 artists from all over the world, mainly from Europe, Africa, and Latin America. Their work is spread over four venues with over 14.000 square meters: La Sucrière, the Fondation Bullukian, the Musée d’art contemporain de Lyon, and the T.A.S.E factory. The exhibition is accompanied by two platforms: Vedutta and Résonance.
The 2011 Biennale has been conceived by the Argentinean curator Victoria Noorthoorn. The Biennale is named A Terrible Beauty is Born after a verse from the poem Easter, 1916, written by the Irish writer W.B. Yeats. Among the participating artists are Erick Beltrán, Guillaume Bijl, Pierre Bismuth, Ulla von Brandenburg, Richard Buckminster Fuller, Yona Friedman, Yun-Fei Ji, Robert Kusmirowski, Gabriel Sierra, Hector Zamora, and many others.
