Both artists take up residence in the gallery for five days, the first time they have collaborated fully. They seek to generate a series of temporary interventions which explore the crossover between their respective artistic practices, with a focus on their mutual interest in the slippage of meaning when found imagery is manipulated. Laura’s investigations are based upon the projection of gathered source imagery, while Rachel employs her own archive of source material based on the moving image. Using a projector as a tool for drawing, they manipulate the reading of projected images through drawing and distortions with reference to analogue special effects techniques.

BALTIC 39 is a vibrant community of practicing artists located on High Bridge in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne. This publicly accessible, cultural hub for contemporary art practice and research opened in April 2012 as a unique collaborative venture between Newcastle City Council, Arts Council England, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and Northumbria University. The former Ward's printing warehouse and distinctive Grade II listed building at 39 High Bridge Street is home to BALTIC's project space - a stunning top-floor gallery, 33 artists' studios and the BxNU Institute of Contemporary Art.

L.A. Art Show 2017, Los Angeles Convention Center, Los Angeles, California - January 11 to January 15, 2017

Already considered one of the largest international art fairs in the United States, with 70,000 attendees last year, the LA Art Show is significantly expanding its footprint for its 22nd edition opening January 11-15, 2017. The 2017 fair will feature the most international list of exhibitors to date, with more than 100 galleries from over 20 countries including China, Czechoslovakia, France, Japan, Mexico and the United Kingdom; an expanded group of corporate and media partners, including Stella Artois and the China Cultural Media Group, among many others; and an exciting roster of new exhibitions and programs curated by major local and international museums and arts organizations. In recognition of Los Angeles’s new position as an international hub for cutting-edge contemporary art across all mediums — from painting, sculpture and drawing to performance, video, and installation — the fair’s board of directors is placing a new focus on post-war modern and contemporary artwork.

This year the LA Art Show will also launch ROOTS, an exclusive curated section of historical dealers from the old Los Angeles Fine Art Show, presenting exhibitions of 18th Century European, Contemporary Realism, California Plein Air and Hudson River School paintings. “As Los Angeles takes its place at the vanguard of the global art scene, our ability to adapt and evolve to meet the art market’s current trends and provide strong civic support is vital,” says LA Art Show producer and partner Kim Martindale. “The evolving role of the art fair as a fulcrum for art commerce, connecting galleries, artists, curators and international and multi-generational collectors drives our program.”

Highlights from this years L.A.Art Show included Dosshaus, Kim Abeles, Coagula Curatorial, Arcadia Contemporary, Artists Republic, and showcases from Museum of Latin American Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Patrick Painter Gallery.
