Jordan Kantor at Ratio 3, San Francisco, California




This is a walkthrough of Jordan Kantor’s solo exhibition at Ratio 3 Gallery in San Francisco. It’s Jordan Kantor’s third solo show at Ratio 3. The exhibition features new paintings by the San Francisco-based artist. On display is an installation of paintings that re-purpose materials used during the process of painting, a group of dark paintings that utilize paint sludge, and a series of paintings that are based upon film stills used in studio settings.

Jordan Kantor was born in 1972. He studied at Harvard University, Cambridge, Stanford University, Stanford, and Hochschule der Künste, Berlin. The artist lives and works in San Francisco. Recent exhibitions include The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2012); Churner and Churner, New York (2011); The Henry Art Gallery, Seattle (2011); Ratio 3, San Francisco (2010); The Seattle Art Museum (2010); Art 40 Basel Statements (2009). The solo exhibition at Ratio 3 runs until February 9, 2013.

Robert Gober: "Sculpture Drawings Studies" at Matthew Marks Gallery, West Hollywood, California

Robert Gober: Sculpture Drawings Studies will be the artist’s first one-person exhibition of new work in four years, and his first one-person show in Los Angeles in fifteen years.

Gober has produced three large sculptures, several smaller sculptures, and a group of works on paper for this exhibition. All of them will be exhibited here for the first time. A selection of related earlier works will also be included.

Robert Gober began exhibiting his work publicly in 1979. Since that time he has had numerous exhibitions, both in this country and abroad. His work has been the subject of one-person museum exhibitions at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume, Paris (1991), the Dia Center for the Arts, New York (1992), The Serpentine Gallery, London (1993), the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (1997), and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (1999), among others. He represented the United States at the 2001 Venice Biennale. In 2007, the Schaulager in Basel, Switzerland organized a comprehensive overview of his work.

Robert Gober: Sculpture Drawings Studies will be on view from January 19 through April 6, 2013, Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. at 1062 North Orange Grove and 7818 Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles.
